The future of one of HBCU football’s premier opening weekend showcases is now set.
The Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kickoff has officially announced its featured matchups for the next three seasons, with Morgan State, Jackson State, Norfolk State, South Carolina State, Alabama State and Alcorn State all slated to take center stage in nationally televised contests.
The annual event continues to serve as a marquee showcase for Historically Black Colleges and Universities while highlighting the longstanding rivalry between the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
2027: Morgan State Makes Challenge Debut
The 2027 edition will feature Morgan State making its first-ever appearance in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge when the Bears take on Alabama State.
The matchup gives Morgan State an opportunity to open its season on one of the biggest stages in HBCU football while Alabama State returns to the event looking to make an early statement in SWAC play.
2028: Jackson State vs. Norfolk State Headlines Showcase
Perhaps the most anticipated game of the three-year slate comes in 2028 when Jackson State squares off against Norfolk State.
Jackson State has become one of the nation’s most recognizable HBCU football brands, and a meeting with the Spartans promises to draw significant national interest. With both programs carrying rich traditions and passionate fan bases, the contest has the potential to become one of the premier HBCU games of the season.
2029: South Carolina State Meets Alcorn State
The 2029 MEAC/SWAC Challenge will feature South Carolina State against Alcorn State.
Both programs have enjoyed championship success within their respective conferences, setting the stage for another compelling interconference battle to kick off the college football season.
